In short, it makes you feel alive and the protagonist of a day you won’t forget. We are privileged to live near a place like this, don’t you think?

Hidden in the Cape Huertas from San Juan neighbourhood and connected by cliff-top paths, you will find this viewpoint’s best kept secret: its coves. These coastal nature reserves are popular with nudists and windsurfers and parasailers, for their breeze and peaceful atmosphere: Cala Cantalar, Cala dels Jueus and Cala de la Palmera. Just a few metres from the latter is Cap de l’Horta, where its famous lighthouse presides over the bay of Alicante.

The change of the Alicante orchard

Let’s take a look back a little, to the time before modernity and development set their sights on this geographical feature. This neighbourhood owes its name to the orchards that populated the vicinity of the Cape that closed the bay of Alicante to Levante. Birds and marine species found their sanctuary in these inaccessible coves with soft rocks shaped by the waves of the Mediterranean.

Did you know that the lighthouse that now presides over the cape started out as a watchtower? Yes, and it remained untouched by the evolution of the city well into the 20th century.

Life is changing and some social groups began to tire of the speed of the city and appreciate the tranquility of this place. Then the first chalets of those seeking tranquility and admirers of this beautiful spot arrived, who little by little began to change the photograph of the viewpoint by locating their homes on top of the cape to be able to enjoy the view of the entire bay and the city of Alicante every day. They were the only ones, soon many others began to appreciate the sunsets, the sea breeze, the sound of the seagulls and the privacy it offered.

Single-family homes were becoming more and more common, forming small urbanisations. It was also the turn of mass construction, which resulted in what we know today as Cabo de las Huertas.
